Rape has become endemic in South Africa, so a medical technician named Sonette Ehlers developed a product that immediately gathered national attention there. Ehlers had never forgotten a rape victim telling her forlornly, “If only I had teeth down there.”
Some time afterward, a man came into the hospital where Ehlers works in excruciating pain because his penis was stuck in his pants zipper.
Ehlers merged those images and came up with a product she called Rapex. It resembles a tube, with barbs inside. The woman inserts it like a tampon, with an applicator, and any man who tries to rape the woman impales himself on the barbs and must go to an emergency room to have the Rapex removed.
When critics complained that it was a medieval punishment, Ehlers replied tersely, “A medieval device for a medieval deed.”

I am not sure what part of my logical brain talks me out of doing nice simple shoots. Go big or go home, right? Just as Lucky and I had been concocting some simple, fun, humorous ideas, Caley from Miss G Designs ( http://missgdesigns.com/ https://www.facebook.com/missgdesigns) came to me and asked if I was interested in shooting this gorgeous headdress. It is clearly part creature-from-the-underworld and part sumptuous-vixen. I love how super over the top and extravagant it is,while still having clean lines and an elegant flow to it’s shape. Caley always paints her mannequin heads black so I thought it would be cool to become a real live version of them, but with a twist of satanic inspired goddess in there :-) Lucky and I went to Cinema Secrets today, which is an awesome costume makeup shoppe in Burbank, to acquire the body paint for this. It went on amazingly easily and looks bad. fuckin. ass. If I do say so myself :-) Toot toot! That’s me tooting my own horn.
